Why We Built This Site
Michigan gives the public broad access to court records. The hard part is figuring out which office holds the file you want. The County Clerk / Register of Deeds serves as clerk to the 38th Circuit Court and keeps birth, death, marriage, and land records. The 38th Circuit Court hears felony, family, and larger civil cases, while the 1st District Court handles traffic, misdemeanors, small claims, and landlord-tenant matters. The Probate Court covers estates, guardianships, and name changes. The Sheriff's Records Division manages the jail roster, crash reports, and record checks. Add Michigan FOIA requests and the state's MDHHS vital records office, and the picture gets crowded fast. - We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now
Only the issuing court or government office can provide a certified copy with an official seal. We can point you to the right office, but the document has to come from them.
